citizenship and commitment

CITIZENSHIP AND COMMITMENT This blog is about the presence of the values of citizenship and commitment in the poem called     "the raven" by Edgar allan poe, the poem overall has a very somber and depressing atmosphere, however hidden within the poem is an undertone that exemplifies this 2 values, the value of commitment is the most prevalent of the two values because the story is basically about the commitment the speaker has with his wife , because even if she has passed away , he is still loyal to her, even in death, this might be the driving reason for the author`s apparent seclusion from society, because he might see it as disrespectful towards his wife if he were to stop mourning for her, however if we analyze the story more closely, the apparent sense of "commitment" may appear to be on the brink of turning into obsession, due to the fact that the man cannot let go of the fact that his wife died, so he tries to mask his obsession with her with an apparent s

Patience and Caring

The topic of the story “Self Reliance” is being dependent on yourself, and learning how to break free from other people’s expectations and obligations, developing your potential as an individual person. When you compare this with our two values, being caring and being patient, you wouldn’t find many similarities, but if you read the author’s essay carefully you might realize that they are more present that you think. When we start becoming more independent and we start thinking by ourselves and not caring about what other people think of us and being able to decide by our own mind, we are actually showing and taking care of ourselves because in this essay it its expressed that being self reliant can free a man from many things, like other’s opinions, routines, consistency, and conforming. the author says that you should trust thyself, meaning you should care and value your own opinion and learn to accept it, which is a part of caring for yourself and deciding that being more individua

Fairness and Justice

"A psalm of life" and "The tide rises the tide falls", are two poems in which the values of fairness and justice are present, Fairness is when something or someone is treated with equality, while justice is the quality of being fair and reasonable, in a psalm of life, Fairness is present in the story because the author tells the readers of the poem that if we make the most out of our lives we will come to better enjoy our lives, meanwhile justice is also present in the story because in a way the author is trying to tell us that people which make the most out of their lives will be rewarded while people who are lazy and waste their lives will never be successful, in addition the author clearly makes a point in telling the reader that life can both be fair and unfair depending on the situation. In "the tide rises the tide falls"  while the value of Fairness is not directly shown, there is a hidden meaning in the poem regarding fairness, because in the poem

Thankfulness and trustworthiness

The devil and Tom Walker is a story about a man who makes a deal with the devil, in this story there are two main values trustworthiness and thankfulness, trustworthiness is the ability to trust another person , and thankfulness is the act of being grateful towards somebody, throughout this story we come across situations where this values are and are not present in the story, this is exemplified in the relationships between characters and in their own personalities. Trustworthiness is absent from the story except for one moment, instead the characters tend to be untrustworthy with each other, for instance, Tom`s relationship with his wife is one of complete distrust, because the wife thinks Tom is a miserly man, and Tom thinks his wife is a cheater and a hoarder, another example is when Tom tells the wife about the deal, and the wife betrays him and goes to make the deal on her own, but instead she gets killed by the devil, another example is when Tom becomes extremely religious due

The darkest night

Kevin was driving down the highway from a long day of work, it was a dark and rainy night, and Kevin was very tired from having worked all day, while he was driving, a lightning strike landed in front of the car and he crashed in a nearby forest, about two hours later Kevin woke up and realized he had broken his arm, he tried opening the door but it wouldn`t budge, he tried kicking the windshield, and it cracked open, he then crawled his way out. Kevin realized he was lost, since he could`t see the highway, he tried using his phone, but there was no signal, so he decided to walk in a random direction, since eventually he had to get somewhere, or so he thought. After having walked for around half an hour Kevin heard a howl in the distance, but didn`t pay much attention to him, soon he would pay for his negligence, as soon he was preyed upon by a pack of wolves. He tried to run but a wolf pounced him and forced him to the ground, however Kevin lit a flare he took from his car, and ma
